Tales From Muppetland: The Frog Prince

In a day and age when everything you can ever imagine is now available on DVD and Blu Ray, it is the plight of '80s babies that the shows of our youth seem to exist only in our memories. In some cases, like the MUPPET BABIES, the shows are documented and everyone has heard of them yet for whatever reason, they aren't released. However, some remain more obscure like TALES FROM MUPPETLAND: THE FROG PRINCE.

The plot is basically your standard FROG PRINCE with the exception that most of the cast is Muppets and that the Princess has been cursed with reverse speech. After years of my talking about this film, I suppose it became overwhelmingly annoying, a friend of mine Googled "Frog Prince + Muppets + Princess with a speech problem" and the title appeared. After an unsuccessful search of NETFLIX and my too local library systems, I made a last ditch effort with Youtube...

Success!

Here now for your viewing pleasure, is Tales From Muppetland

Facebook the Socially Awkward Network

Today is the dvd release of THE SOCIAL NETWORK; the movie that documents the creation of Facebook (and deterioration of the friendship of co-creators Eduardo Saverin and Mark Zuckerberg.) The movie has been embraced by audiences and critics alike. It has also been criticized about how accurate it really is but either way one thing is for sure, it chronicles (ish) something that would forever change the world as we know it.

So for a time let’s think about what the world would be like if Andrew Garfield and Jesse Eisenberg had never invented Facebook:

Andrew Garfield and Jesse Eisenberg as Saverin and Zuckerberg

1. Ms Betty
Betty White would have never hosted Saturday Night Live

2. Profile Pics
You know the ones, self portraits often containing a sliver of your arm and shot from above or on an angle like this:
Without Facebook society would have no need for this, and therefore be worse off for it

3. Spreading the news fast
There is no such thing as word of mouth anymore. If you want to get a message out fast- like your pregnant or were in a car accident, or are thinking about getting bangs- all you have to do is post it as your status and boom, all of your friends can see it and respond.

4. It has never been easier or more inconspicuous to make people really jealous
Happen to share a cab with Johnny Depp? Got the Hope Diamond for an engagement ring? Finally landed a job that everyone you went to school with covets? It used to be bragging to tell people this kind of thing and how did you bring up the subject? Now you post a picture of Johnny helping you out of the cab, light reflecting off of your hand as you enter CNN and no words need to be said.

5. Facestalking
You can watch your exes (or for that matter favorite celeb's) every move, check out his new girlfriend, and send the pictures of her to your best friends so they can confirm he downgraded. Without Facebook this was considered a crime, now it's a rainy day activity.

6. No more messy Breakups
There was a time, not that long ago, when if you wanted to break up with someone you had to look them in the eye and tell them. They would likely want a reason, there would be tears from your boyfriend, it was all very tramatic. Sure you could've done it over the phone (you know like a Jonas Brother) but this person could then call you back, to avoid the call you'd have to make your mother tell them you weren't there, then your mom's stuck on the phone. Not good but now you have something amazing, you can change your relationship status. Your Boyfriend logs on and see's "Elisa has changed from IN A RELATIONSHIP to SINGLE" Sure it's cold but life's hard, get a helmet.

7. The Delete Button
You know those people you hoped to never see or hear from again from that Summer job you Had when you were 16? Well, since the advent of Facebook meant they could message you there and you never had to give them your phone number or address, the only communication they have with you is through the network. If that is still too much you can delete your friends and all traces of those friends are gone forever. There is no person in this world who has never wanted to do this.

So thank you, young genius zillionairs for these 7 things and many others that make me happy you got dumped and created this site. Sincerly Yours the girl whose first status was "is smarter than Paris Hilton."

Something Every Monty Python fan should see

I have been a devoted fan of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE since 1998, and a MONTY PYTHON FAN SINCE COLLEGE so when I found out that I could watch early episodes of SNL that were hosted by Pythons (I know right, worlds collide) I was excited. Having watched these classic gems with Michael Palin and Eric Idle (who combined to host around every other episode for the first few seasons) I wondered If John Cleese, possibly the most famous Python, ever hosted and found the following clip from an episode just one season bofore I became an SNL fan.

Mind Blown...

Live at Crow Creek Tavern

The man singing here is Nick Gibson and his rendition of Hallelujah (which I first heard in November of 2008) has always made me weep. Nick is another one of those musicians that I heard about because he knew David Cook in his bar gig days, and another reason why I am thankful that David Cook got famous and, therefore introduced me to all of these great people.

This video was taken on December 16, 2010 and the guitarist/ wolf man to his right is none other than Cook’s friend and guitarist Neal Tiemann. The song ended their set at the Crow Creek Tavern in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The show kicked off three days that I wished Tulsa was drivable from NYC where To Have Heroes and Phil Marshal each did two full band shows. Unfortunately I was unable to attend but luckily there are youtube videos and, even better, Nick Gibson has now released the entire Crow Creek show for the low price of ten dollars!

Stomach Flu

Tuesday started just like any other day of work until, about ten minutes after Lauren and I walked in, GiGi projectile vomited from my arms. Within the next 15 minutes she had repeated the feat twice and was splashing around in a bath. Surrounded by her boats and duckies, GiGi was giggling and having a great time, and we had to wonder if maybe, something just hadn’t agreed with her. Two hours of playing later, there was no sign of illness so we thought it was safe to take G out for a walk. She fell asleep almost immediately after entering her carriage and everything was back to normal until an hour later when the little princess woke up suddenly sat up and projectile vomited all over the Old Navy bathroom. It was stomach flu.

The rest of the day consisted of phone calls between GiGi’s mother and her pediatrician, being relayed back to us on what to do and what to expect. By the time the doctor warned that diarrhea was next, it had shown up in abundance, and we were instructed to wash our hands every time we touched a diaper, something we do anyway. Allegedly, the stomach flu is only transmitted through fluids, not air born, which would have been great except that the day before GiGi just happened to have spoon-fed both Lauren and I, some of her food. We were in the danger zone…

By Wednesday night at 6, everything seemed okay. I talked to GiGi’s mother and, not only was G doing better, but nobody around her had shown symptoms. 6 hours later the tables had turned both of GiGi’s parents, Lauren and I had all been taken down by the bug. The night and early morning were filled with hourly runs to the bathroom, by 11 it became every two hours and as the day went on sleep faded in and out, thankfully, to the sound of DISNE/ PIXAR’S UP and by 5:30 last night I was able to hold up my head to eat some soup.

The stomach flu doesn’t only affect your stomach, your entire body aches. Not just aches actually, the pain screams out from muscles you never realized could hurt but at least I survived. There were times when, even though all logic and history proved that I wouldn’t, I was pretty sure I was near death. I lost 2 pounds in 36 hours, and even though I have been dieting almost nonstop for three years, there is no joy in it, no it was worth it. If you haven’t gotten this flu, I hope you don’t and if you do, stay strong.

As one website, where I was looking up treatment put it: you won’t die but you will want to.

Music Monday: David Cook album teaser

WARNING: It isn't much but then again, when you are dying of thirst, a drop of water can make a world of difference.

HAPPY 2011

It's a new year and a new year means new things. My goal this year is to laugh more and cry less. I'm also going to try new things (I think) and to kick that off I tried a new food last night, you might remember that is a big deal for me

Last night I made scrambled eggs with salsa and cheese. I figured I like all three ingredients so why not try it right? People tend to like it. It was delicious and everyone should try it for themselves.

I know that trying something with three ingredients that I like doesn't seem like a big deal, but for me it was. I am the person who loves coffee, adores chocolate and yet despises everything Mocha.
