Can Gwyneth Paltrow Go Away Now?

Don’t get me wrong, Gwyneth is a good actress.

I can totally understand why she won the Oscar for SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE because she did deserve one. She a vital part of THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY, which is a movie that I really do love but can only watch every other year because of how amazingly creepy Matt Damon was and she co-star with Ben Affleck in the (probably bomb) Rom-Com BOUNCE, which has a refreshing and heartbreaking spin on the often over played formula “Guy and girl fall, loose each other over a lie or failure of truth telling” get each other back.” Similarly, even though I don’t care for SHALLOW HAL, I appreciated the fact that she could be funny, unfortunately, that is when the problems with her started for me.


She started to complain about the fat suit she had to wear to play the overweight character and over the years her whinny voice continued to bother me. There was always something for her to complain about or be pompous over. The she married COLDPLAY front man Chris Martin and started acting British. I don’t really know how to explain this but it’s that same thing Madonna does, and it just really irks me. Still, I liked her as an actress and was looking forward to her new movie COUNTRY STRONG.

Much like her movie about a decade ago, DUETS, the role required her to sing, unlike that film it led to promotional stuff that she performed on. First it was a role on Musical Comedy TV show GLEE, which made sense because it requires actors who can sing, which is what Paltrow is. However, as the awards season got underway, her performances continued and, as she pranced around on the GRAMMY’S, performing a duet with Ce Lo it occurred to me that she actually believes that being a singer’s wife makes her a singer too. I guess this follows the logic that being with Heath Ledger and Brad Pitt helped Michelle Williams and Angelina Jole become A-list actors but they were actors to begin with. Terry Gilliam’s makeup artist wife doesn’t try to direct his films and Marilyn Monroe never tried to play for the Yankees.

So I’ve made peace with the idea that sooner than later Mrs. Martin is going to embarrass herself by releasing an album. Who knows, it might even sell well, people buy auto tuned crap all the time, but now she’s released a cookbook and they think she wants to be the next Martha Stewart. Now, it might be good because I’m not saying that she can’t cook, I’m just saying I really don’t care if she can. My mother is a great cook but it doesn’t mean she has to make money off of it and we don’t have Power Couple money, trust me.

Last week Johnny Depp, Captain Jack Sparrow, appeared at a school.
According to the BBC, Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp strolled into a Greenwich (England) school unannounced.

The 47-year-old star turned up after receiving a letter from nine-year-old pupil Beatrice, who wrote to Captain Jack Sparrow asking him to help her lead a mutiny against teachers.

A special assembly was called and the actor performed alongside other cast members – all of whom were in costume - for around 15 minutes, much to the delight of staff and pupils.

When we were Kids, we wouldn't have been able to watch Pirates of the Caribbean because it was PG13.

Happy Birthday Anderson Cooper

When I was in my introduction to Public Relations class we were given an assignment that involved picking a real person or product and creating a fake scenario that we would then have to deal with. The scenario doesn’t matter but my person was Anderson Cooper and since today is Coop’s 43^rd birthday I thought it would be fun to post my Biography portion of the project. Enjoy!

BIOGRAPHY OF ANDERSON COOPER

Early life:

Anderson Hayes Cooper was born June 3, 1967, New York City the fourth son of designer and railroad heiress Gloria Vanderbilt and her second with actor and author Wyatt Emory Cooper. Though born into wealth, the teenage Cooper worked summers as a waiter. He pursued his first job, at age 11, as a Ford model because he "wanted to...be financially independent." He attended Dalton School in Manhattan and graduated with honors from Yale in 1989 with a BA in political science.

Tragedy:

In January 1978 Wyatt Cooper, passed away during heart bypass surgery after suffering several heart attacks during the holidays in 1977. Anderson was only 10, and his older brother, Carter Vanderbilt Cooper, only 12. Less than ten years later, on July 23, 1988, Carter a committed suicide jumping from the terrace of Gloria Vanderbilt's Manhattan apartment, while Vanderbilt stood mere feet away begging him to stop. The death was later believed to have been a sleepwalking incident caused by insomnia and stress from a recent breakup mixed with allergy drug, Proventil. Both deaths had a profound effect on Cooper -- personally and professionally. It has been reported that his brother's passing was what inspired him to pursue a career in journalism.

Professional life:

In 1990, Cooper Began working as a fact checker for Channel One, a news program made to air in classrooms. After working six months as a fact-checker, 22-year-old Cooper quit the job, secured a fake press ID, bought a video camera and headed on his own to Africa to cover the crisis in Somalia. Soon selling his work to Channel One, who eventually made him chief international correspondent. In 1994, he became a reporter for ABC News. At the age of 28, Cooper was their youngest correspondent. In September of 1999, Cooper became the permanent anchor of World News Now, while continuing to work as a correspondent. In need of a break, Cooper took a two year detour from news into the world of reality TV and became the host ABC's reality show, The Mole for its first two seasons.

After terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Cooper realized his true calling was in helping people tell their stories and in late 2001 was hired by CNN to work as an anchor alongside Paula Zahn on American Morning with Paula Zahn. In September 2003, Cooper took over the evening show with Aaron Brown and it was renamed Anderson Cooper 360°. Cooper gained notoriety and a huge fan base while covering Hurricane Katrina in late 2005, which subsequently led to Anderson Cooper 360 being expanded into a two hour show.

Rickey Martin! A punny thing happens when i talk about people from my tween years

Rickey Martin came out of the closet today.
















I know right? Who’d have guessed?!
I knew when I was twelve that he was even more boy crazy than I was (am), the first time I saw him but I digress.

He said in his statement how people had advised him not to comment on his sexuality during the height of his career (circa late 1990s early turn of the century) because it would counteract all of the hard work he had done to get to that point. Hey it’s not easy shaking your bon bon!

Basically the people in charge of his career put him in a glass closet, potentially denying him a chance at happiness, because the public might not buy his music if they knew that he was livin’ la vida homo.

I like to pretend that 40 plus years after Martin Luther King Jr died in pursuit of a world where people would be judged for the content of their character and not what they were born like and in a country that has just elected its first black president, we have moved past such stupid thoughts. The unfortunate truth is that Martin’s entourage was right to be cautious and it’s still going on ten years later.

Gay rights advocates will say that this is a big step for America because a huge star has come out and more will surely follow, but let’s be honest; Rickey is about as relevant as someone on “Dancing with the Stars” these days. This might even be a move to make him reenter pop culture since he also happened to mention an upcoming memoir (sounds a lot like a certain Lance Bass I know.)

So is this a step toward a more tolerant America with liberty and justice for all? Probably not.

Is Rickey kind of being gay for pay in hopes of making a buck on his former fame? Yeah but that is what America really is about, money!

Either way I wish Rickey nothing but happiness and an overflow of men in his cup of life (olay olay olay!)
