Long overdue review of The Last Song I'll Write For You

If you are a David Cook fan, you know that Cook's words can throw daggers or melt hearts, depending on who they are aimed at.

The title, as well as lines like, "Now I know that i can let you go... I've wrote the last song I'll write for you" suggests that the song may be a tounge in cheek goodbye to RCA, his post American Idol lable he recently parted ways with. However, one listen straight through suggests there is someone out there who is going to wake up one day and realize they lost someone more precious then one of the clients.

Who that is remains to be seen but who Cook is is showcase more so in this song than any of his others because, for the first time in half a decade he self released, preventing anyone else to say who he is or market who he should be.

Cook's music is not for everyone, but then again it never has been. In a world of gimmicks Cook is the rare talent that can stand at a microphone and sound better than he does on your ipod. He doesn't wear bubble suits, he doesn't use a synthesizer, and he certainly doesn't have his own perfume but he can step away from a mike with his band off stage and perform a song with passion and emotions that affect the last row.
