Friday Fun Part two

So as I said yesterday, Friday was a long day and a long day deserves two posts.

Dinner for Ms. Baby was simple enough, a mashed up avocado (one of her favorite foods) and a slice of cheese. What we would have for dinner was a more difficult discussion. Normally, if we work at night, we decide in advance what we want and bring or order it. However, this was last minute so here we were in the center of some of the greatest restaurants in the world able to get literally anything we wanted. Making that choice is hard.

The Standard Grill is a restaurant inside the Standard Hotel, a hotel with a park running through it. If this sounds odd, it really is! In actuality the hotel is built around the Highline, pretty fun right? I had heard nice things about the restaurant so I suggested it for dinner since there is outdoor seating, where Ms. Baby’s carriage wouldn’t be in the way.

Needless to say a lot of people wanted to sit outside on a late spring evening (who’d have thought) but there was plenty of room for her in the cafĂ© and she had a nice nap while we ate burgers and mouthwatering fries topped with sea salt. (You know you’re jealous) By the time we walked home and gave Ms. Baby a bath (the highlight of both her and Lauren’s day) there was just enough time for the tiny one to rock out to some music before her parents got home.

By the train ride home, we were rather slap happy and managed to laugh for a solid hour until we got home to frost cupcakes. You see there was a neighborhood fund raiser that we had promised to make cupcakes with Magnolia frosting for. We just had to show off that we had the recipe. When we found out we were working late, my mother said she would bake the actual cupcakes (dozens of them, Thanks Mom!) from mixes we had in the house but we had no store bought frosting. At 11 o’clock at night, here were these two lunatics in my kitchen mixing up a batch of frosting and swirling it in on the cakes.

Fine- maybe eating some of it too. Don’t judge me I didn’t mention dessert at either restaurant did I? And besides I was still upset about the donut.

I can honestly say that was one of the most fun Fridays I’ve had in a long time.
