I can't stop talking about...

Damage here is minimal

At least in comparison to other places.  Day 3 of this storm and we are in the cleanup stage.

The emotional side is another story, Seaside, as well as the rest of the Jersey Shore- where I spend beautiful vacations in the summer, has been obliterated!!  My friends who are like my family, are displaced from their home with no return date in sight.  But at least they are alive, at least everyone I care about wasn't hurt or killed.  It's easy to say sitting in an unharmed house with an untouched car but people is really the only thing that matters. Everything else is just stuff.

Stay safe everyone and God bless those who weren't as lucky as I was.

Hurricane Sandy doing a number on NYC

I have blogged about several storms over the years and as you know, I don't go to the apocalypse reaction that the 24/7 news wants to get out of everyone.  That said, New York City is starting to look like a disaster move!!

All of these images belong to various newssites and not me.

Halloween went to the dogs

Saturday was the Pet Costume party at Petco and I personally think few things are cute than animals who like to dress up.

conquering the pain

If someone told me over three months ago, when the doctor wrote me a prescription for a sinus infection that it would be autumn before I found what currently seems like an answer to what was causing the pain, I would have thought you were crazy. Then again at that point I would have believed I would be married and pregnant by October before I'd have believed that Gigi and I would have not seen each other in a month! I guess it is safe to say it has been a crazy few months.

About a month after my wisdom tooth extraction, I still was getting mind bending sinus pain and headache. At this point I was given two more weeks of what I believe to be the strongest antibiotic on the market. According to the dentist this was all he could do. maybe two weeks ago, still in pain, I resorted to prescription nasal spray, which I am still using. I had seen that there is a rarely reported correlation between gluten problems and sinus pain and headaches so (even though I had cut down on my intake a bit) I decided on the walk home from the pharmacy that I would have no gluten at all for several days so the expensive spray could start working.  That simple thought has now become my lifestyle for the foreseeable future.  The doctor had told me, when we had discussed my gluten intolerance that I would figure it out by listening to my body and though I didn't realize it at the time, my face was screaming.

I will miss certain foods I eat but, to paraphrase what the supermodels say, nothing tastes better than pain free feels.  At least I don't think...

Horrible time at dinner tonight

Tonight I had the worst restaurant experience of my life at the T G I Fridays on 5th ave between 50&51st st.  Lauren and I were working the evening and since the location never stated that it was not handicap accessible, even though it wasn't, we had to carry little Xavier up the stairs in his carriage.  Thank God nobody who needs a wheelchair wasn't with us.

We then waited 20 minutes for our server and then another 40 before our appitizer arrived.  We were told it had to be remade because it was wrong (I didn't want onions) and when it did come we had to sent it back because it was wrong again because the menu never stated that the dish had tomatoes which Lauren dreads.  After being told it was going to be another 10-20 before our appitizer would be ready so we asked if we could get the main course and talk to the manager while we waited. The appitizer arrived before either.  When the manager finally, after all of the food came, all he said was "I'll give you a discount all better" and abruptly walked away.

The main course must have heated for the entire hour and a half because it was like trying to chew leather.  When the check arrived we asked about the alleged discount and our server said she would send the manager again.  When he arrived he rudely threw the check at Lauren and then yelled "here."  The discount he though was acceptable for all this trouble was $8 which, when you consider my entree alone cost over $22, is not a discount so much as an insult.

I have always enjoyed TGI Fridays but I have also only ever visited one location and now I am scared to try any others in Manhattan.
